The weather has been playing havoc with the construction works over the past few months but all efforts have been made in terms of erosion prevention and repairs to the most susceptible areas throughout the West Course.
Phase 1 of the project is on target, but with some minor defects works still to be carried out for the remainder of the month.
The Club will take over the early maintenance from the contractors for the mowing and fertilizing of holes 10-18, which will provide us time to practice and train the relevant staff. This will also give us a chance to test and adjust all the new maintenance machinery and equipment, which have recently arrived on site.
One noticeable difference you will encounter is the changes in all the bunkers, not only in terms of numbers and strategic locations, but the quality of the sand, the design and the incorporation of “Bunker Mat”. This is a material that is placed in the bunker faces prior to spreading the sand, which prevents erosion and wash outs of the steepest faced bunkers, as we know was a very prevalent problem prior to re-construction. |

Holes 1-9 rough shaping has been completed, with the remaining drainage and irrigation installation in progress on holes 3-9. Again the weather conditions have caused many delays and the heavy downpours caused severe erosion, which must be repaired before works can recommence.
Turf grass quality and supplies from our local supplier have also improved in the past month, which is good news for phase 2, 3 & 4, where we hope to do more solid turfing rather than stolonising. This will save delays, maintenance costs and establishment times for the remainder of the project. |
